What You Should Know before Buying Bedding - it Is Captivating

June 24th, 2009

Long time ago when I was a child, I remember that all the bed frame sheets in my house had to be white cotton ones. today you find so much diversity in these bed sheets that it becomes hard to choose. Nobody had considered that bedding could be made using such stunning pastel tones and several fabrics.

The following are some factors that matter a lot when you buy a bedsheet.

Take the beds measurements

Though we are all aware what a twin or king or queen size bed is, what many of us dont know is that there are no standard dimensions for these beds. The top dimensions might be the same, but again the measurings differ with each maker. So make sure that you estimate all the measurements of your bed from top to bottom, side to side and also the thickness of the mattress you are using. Your bed could be shorter or longer than another one from the same producer. It is always better to be available with your beds dimensions prior to shopping.

Choose your shop

Large departmental shops have a separate division for linen and bedding and offer branded sheets and in-house brands under the same roof. For a different look, some people also go for embroidered bedding with sequins. If you still cannot find what you want, try the online stores. The basic bed sheets are sold in discount shops for a small cost.

Familiarize yourself with thread count in bedding

A thread count means the count of threads consisted in one square inch of a sheet in both weaving directions. This count is mentioned on the label of the bedsheet itself. For a luxurious feel, a high thread count is desirable. Dont go for a higher thread count than preferred as the thin single threads will not feel comfortable. For the right soft feel, a thread count of 175 - 250 is fine.

Choose the bedsheet cloth.

Take care to choose a fabric that you can afford and is cozy too. If you prefer wrinkle-free sheets then go for cotton blends or you can purchase basic cotton fabrics. Flannel is warm and can be used for wintertimes. For a lavish look, go for satin, silk or microfiber.

Calculate the sizing of the bedsheet

Now you need to calculate the length and breadth of the bed sheet. With the bed sizing ready with you, check if the bedsheet you plan to purchase will fit your bed. The first wash can shrink your bedsheet by at least 7 %. It is a good idea to stock up some extra sets of bedding. these extra sets come in handy if you have kids at home.

Once all the above factors are taken care of, you are sure to buy a nice and inexpensive bed sheet soon!
